2009 St. Paul Rotary Teacher of the Year is Mac's M Club President

Steve Cox '76, M Club President, was selected as 2009 St. Paul Rotary Teacher of the Year. Cox is a multi-talented mentor who teaches social studies and is a coordinator at Washington Technology Magnet Middle School, coaches soccer at Highland Middle School, and advises the Minnesota Institute for Talented Youth at Macalester College, among many other pursuits.
“I am always reminded why I am a teacher,” Cox revealed, “every time I see that light go on in one of my student's faces that says ‘Oh, I got it.'”
Cox accepted the Rotary Award on behalf of all St. Paul teachers and announced that the $1,000 prize would be used to help a Como Park High School student travel to competition for National History Day to sponsor a student camper at a YMCA camp in northern Wisconsin, and to establish a fund to assist low-income students from Chicago to attend the YMCA camp where Cox is a counselor.
